I will be purchasing an ice cream cake. If you would like to bring in goodies to go with it, feel free. We will be snacking all day instead of having a huge "sugar attack" at the end of the day! Thanks for everything you do for our classroom.

Welcome Back!
I hope you had a wonderful restful LONG weekend! I enjoyed my extra day off. We will be having a short week this week! No spelling words! Just continue to review what we have already learned. We will be learning about Paul Bunyan this week. Today we completed a Character Sheet on him. If you are posting, please post a comment about Paul Bunyan!
Sunday
Ready for another week?
This week we will continue talking about Long ago and Today. If you are posting please post a comment about what you have learned about the differences of long ago and today. What is different in the picture? We will also be discussing how important writing is. We will be talking about the important things that we do not need to forget when we are writing a story. Last week we discussed the importance of reading and learned a lot of strategies that will help us be word detectives to figure a word out. Don't forget to use your reading strategy minibooks and your bookmarks if you are stuck on a word! Accelerated Reader begins tomorrow! Get ready to read those books. Let your mom and dad quiz you on it before you come to school! See you in the morning!

Hump Day!
Well we have made it thru two weeks already of First Grade. Your child should be getting into the routine now and settling down. I hope you are finding everything on our blog to be very helpful. We had our first Math Test today and everyone made at least a 90%! That's fantastic. On the side of our blog you can find some math timed fact games. This is very good practice for math fact fluency. Thanks for supporting your child's learning by being an active part in his education!
Thursday
It's Almost Friday!
We have had a great week so far! We have really been concentrating on learning the rules and how to be friends. This book helped us learn that we all are either bucket dippers or bucket fillers. Ask your child about this book! Let's all try to be a bucket filler!
Monday
What a Fantastic First Day of First Grade!
Today was a very busy day! However, I forgot my camera!! I have it packed up with my stuff to take tomorrow though. We got all of our supplies put away today and mainly discussed our rules. We did activities that helped us learn the rules for the hallway, restroom, lunchroom, playground, and classroom! Wow! We read these The Recess Queen and made a chart with our rules.
Next we read First Day Jitters. We discussed what our "Jitters" were for the First Day of First Grade. We drew and picture and wrote about our First Day Jitters. We had some great stories for beginning first graders.
I can't wait until tomorrow! I wonder what book we will be reading tomorrow??

Last Week of School!
It has finally arrived! I am sorry that I have posted in a couple of weeks. You know how the end of the year is! This year has been no different. Busy! Busy! Busy! I will try to post some of the activities that we did. My theme worked very well using The Very Hungry Caterpillar. I will try to post more later!

3 Weeks Left!
It's hard to believe that there are only 3 weeks of school left. We are continuing our unit on The Very Hungry Caterpillar. This week we are eating all of the items that he ate through. Please remember what you signed up to bring and make sure that you get it here the day that we need it. Yesterday we ate fruit salad: 1 apple, 2 pears, 3 plums, 4 strawberries, and 5 oranges!
*Congratulations to 13 of our students who have 100 points and 17 of our students that have 50 points! We had a wonderful parade yesterday throughout the school led by our High School Band. It was awesome!
Monday
We have really been reviewing all of the things that we have learned in first grade! Please remind your child that we ARE still in school. Your child is reminded daily of our rules at school: in the classroom, on the playground, in the hallway, and in the lunchroom. We will have another spelling test Wednesday over the same words from last week. As a whole, our class struggled on this test. We did have two 100s! Congratulations to Kalie and KLynn! Everyone else will take this assessment again.
